Tato výstava, nesoucí podtitul “Není malých obrazů”, zkoumá a oslavuje sílu malby v komorním měřítku. V době, kdy se umění často snaží diváka ohromit monumentálními rozměry a digitálními technologiemi, se vracíme k esenci výtvarného sdělení. Ústřední myšlenkou je přesvědčení, že velikost díla není závislá na jeho fyzickém formátu, ale výhradně na jeho výpovědní hodnotě a mistrovském zpracování.

Kabinetní obraz (nebo Kunstkammer) byl populární v 16. až 18. století v Evropě, kdy tyto malé, detailně propracované malby sloužily pro soukromé potěšení a detailní zkoumání v intimním prostředí sběratelských komnat. Nešlo o veřejné ohromení, ale o osobní dialog mezi dílem a divákem. Tato výstava si klade za cíl iniciovat návrat k tomuto formátu. V kontrastu k současným monumentálním dílům chceme ukázat, že i malý formát může nést velké myšlenky a hlubokou výpovědní hodnotu.

Výstava záměrně neomezuje umělce konkrétním číselným limitem v centimetrech, ale pracuje s relativitou vnímání a intimitou. Prezentovaná díla, ačkoliv menších rozměrů, si zachovávají intenzitu a charakteristický rukopis každého z osmnácti představených umělců.

Můžete se těšit na stylovou rozmanitost, která sahá od neoexpresionistických pláten Josefa Bolfa a Vladimíra Skrepla, přes pop-artovou jednoduchost Alexe Katze, až po unikátní techniky Františka Matouška (džínovina) nebo Jiřího Georga Dokoupila (malba bublinami).

“Small Size” nabízí intimní dialog mezi divákem a dílem, kde je pozornost soustředěna na detail, texturu a myšlenku. Výstava dokazuje, že médium malby je i v tom nejmenším formátu schopné nést velké emoce a komplexní sdělení.

This exhibition, subtitled ‘THERE ARE NO SMALL PAINTINGS‘, explores and celebrates the power of painting on an intimate scale. In an era where art often seeks to overwhelm the viewer with monumental dimensions and digital technologies, we return to the essence of visual expression. The central idea is the conviction that the greatness of a work does not depend on its physical format, but solely on its narrative value and masterful execution.

The cabinet painting (or Kunstkammer) was popular in Europe from the 16th to the 18th century, when these small, intricately detailed works served for private pleasure and close examination within the intimate setting of collectors’ chambers. The goal was not public spectacle, but a personal dialogue between the work and the viewer. This exhibition aims to initiate a return to this format. In contrast to contemporary monumental works, we want to show that even a small format can carry grand ideas and profound meaning.

The exhibition intentionally does not restrict artists with a specific numerical limit in centimeters; instead, it works with the relativity of perception and intimacy. The presented works, though smaller in size, retain the intensity and characteristic signature of each of the eighteen featured artists.

Visitors can look forward to a stylistic diversity ranging from the neo-expressionist canvases of Josef Bolf and Vladimír Skrepl, through the pop-art simplicity of Alex Katz, to the unique techniques of František Matoušek (denim) or Jiří Georg Dokoupil (bubble painting).

‘Small Size’ offers an intimate dialogue between the viewer and the work, where attention is focused on detail, texture, and concept. The exhibition proves that the medium of painting, even in its smallest form, is capable of carrying great emotions and complex messages.”
